Bečov nad Teplou

Not far from the world-famous Karlovy Vary Spa, on the right bank of the Teplá River, in the middle of the romantic landscape of the Slavkov Forest, lies the picturesque town of Bečov nad Teplou.

Although this settlement abounds in rich history and cultural or natural monuments, the main tourist attraction is the exceptional historical area with its Gothic castle, Renaissance palace and Baroque chateau.

The castle of Bečov nad Teplou was founded at the beginning of the fourteenth century by the Lords of Osek, who owned it together with the manor for almost two centuries.

The chateau houses the Reliquary of St. Maurus in the Blue Dining Room, the second most valuable movable monument after the Czech Crown Jewels, dating from the first third of the 13th century.

Below the castle is an eighteenth-century chateau with an original Renaissance core.

During the possession of the Bečov estate by the Belgian Beaufort-Spontin family, the prominent architects Josef Zítek and Josef Mocker designed an extensive reconstruction of the grounds in Romantic style. A unique set of historical buildings to this day.
